An easy winner of the Gr.3 Prix Thomas Bryon as a juvenile, Gold Away was crowned French Champion Miler at both three and four and earned a Timeform rating of 125 after stylish victories in the Gr.2 Prix du Muguet, Gr.3 Prix Edmond Blanc and Gr.3 Prix de Guiche. Never out of the first four in sixteen career starts, the stocky chesnut twice finished second in the Gr.1 Prix du Moulin (defeating the ilk of Dansili, Aljabr, Slickly, Zalaiyka and Seeking The Pearl in the process), split Almutawakel and Dr Fong when failing by only a neck in the Gr.1 Prix Jean Prat and displayed fine speed when a length runner-up to Diktat in the 6 1/2 furlong Gr.1 Prix Maurice de Gheest. The dam of Gold Away's Pattern winner CLIFDEN (c; Sillery): Gr.3 Premio Primi Passi (by 4 lengths), Romora is by Blushing.

A strapping son of Nureyev and the 1981 European Champion Female Gold River, Gold Away’s sire Goldneyev finished runner-up to Kendor in the Gr.1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains. From limited opportunities, Goldneyev has also sired the Gr.2 winning speedball Dananeyev and the classy U.S. turf mare Keemoon as well as the dams of the European Champion Juvenile Filly Goldamix and the Gr.1 E.P. Taylor Stakes victrix Choc Ice. Indeed, his progeny have earned on average 1.22times the average earnings of their half-siblings by other sires, alevel of improvement placing him within the top dozen stallions in Europe.

A Stakes-placed daughter of Blushing Groom and the leading U.S. juvenile filly Sweet Revenge (Raja Baba), Gold Away’s dam Blushing Away is also the dam of the Pattern-winning miler Danzigaway (Danehill) and, in turn, the dam and the grandam of the Pattern-winning juveniles Blushing Gleam (Caerleon) and Foss Way (Desert Prince). Indeed, Gold Away is closely related to Dananeyev (whose damsire is Blushing Groom’s son Groom Dancer) and to the Gr.1 Prix Marcel Boussac and Gr.1 Coronation Stakes ace Gold Splash (herself by Blushing Groom out of Gold River’s top-class daughter Rivière D’Or).

Gold Away’s first runner, ALEXANDER GOLDRUN(f; Darshaan) was an impressive three length winner of a maiden at theCurragh at the start of April. The Jim Bolger-trained filly has afascinating pedigree: out of Goldneyev’s Stakes-winning close relative Renashaan, she is inbred 4x5 to Gold River’s dam, the Italian Champion Three-Year-Old Filly Glaneuse. Another product of a daring mating by Gold Away’s breeders, the Wertheimer brothers, CIENA is inbred 3x3 to both Blushing Groom and Gold River. Gold Away's second runner, CLIFDEN won easily on his debut in April. His dam Romora is by Blushing Groom’s fine son Sillery, whose grandam Sevres is, like Gold River, by Riverman out of a daughter of Snob. Ce Que Je Veux and Clifden are in turn out of a daughter and a granddaughter of Haras du Quesnay’s stalwart Bering. His sire Arctic Tern is closely related to Northern Dancer’s dam Natalma and also features prominently in ANAWAY, MAMBO MAMBO and KARADORA. A daughter of Exit To Nowhere, KLOE’s dam Crasy Deb has Northern Dancer’s half-sister Raise The Standard together with both Blushing Groom and Riverman in her third generation.

The French Champion Gay Mécène is a son of Raja Baba’s Gr.1 Ashland Stakes-winning half-sister Gay Missile, whose daughter Lassie Dear produced the European Champion Sprinter Wolfhound to Nureyev. Gay Mécène’s Stakes-winning daughter Silver Sea is the dam of the German-trained MASUR and is out of a daughter of a half-sister to Glaneuse’s sire Snob.

Gay Mécène is also the sire of the grandam of ABLE MABEL. Able Mabel additionally features a 5x5 coupling of Nureyev’s Gr.1 placed grandam Thong and her top-class full-brother Ridan, the sire of Niniski’s grandam. WALK AWAY’s dam Walk Fairy is by Nureyev’s three parts-brother Fairy King. Goldneyev is a perfect mate for mares by Fairy King and his full-brother Sadler’s Wells: not only is he by their three parts-brother Nureyev, but his damsire Riverman is by the U.S. Champion Juvenile Never Bend, whose three parts-brother Bold Reason is their damsire.
